Implications of transforming growth factor-Beta on Tumorigenesis and progression of Cancer

Transforming growth factor-Beta ad Oxidative stress have a key role in disease and health. The interplay between the transforming growth factor and oxidative stress is studied in tumorigenesis and progression of cancer.
 
Both of them have a contradictory role in cancer progression. Transforming growth factor- beta controls the reactive oxygens species production directly by downregulation of the anti- oxidative systems. Also, reactive oxygen species can influence the transforming growth factor-beta signalling and expression. Both have a strong interplay which can be used by cancer cells for its progression.
 
Transforming growth factor-Beta belongs to family of 40 structurally related regulatory proteins which are expressed in mammals. It plays an important role in normal development like differentiation and cell development. It also plays a key role in tumorigenesis.
 
Based on the tumour stage, transforming growth factor-beta operates as a suppressor of the tumor or as a promoter. It has a function in protection of stressed and injured epithelium, which occurs due to epithelial carcinogenesis. Cancer cells also use transforming growth factor-beta as an immunosuppressive cytokine. This is done to sneak away from the immune system and induction of tumour growth.
